Many people call me and tell me that they are "lucky" - They
are healthy and never see a doctor - Some have never been in a
hospital.
What they say may be true - but many people don't realize that their
body can change from healthy to unhealthy - in a short period of
time - like overnight!
Most people are in shock and disbelief when
they become sick. They can't believe that their body has betrayed
them.
In that moment of illness your body will have no mercy on you and
you will have to seek professional medical attention to hopefully
remedy the health problem.
Many people think of an illness in "Big Terms" - to be really sick
one will probably have some form of CANCER or
HEART DISEASE.
But the majority of people will actually experience illness in other
lesser forms.
But the other forms of illness can still be
harmful and dangerous to the body as well as very expensive to treat.
For instance, many people have health problems such as:
- Stomach Problems
- Ulcers
- Acid Reflux
- Bronchitis
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Colitis
- Diverticulitis
- Kidney Stones
- Gall Stones
- Gall Bladder Problems
- Hernias in different parts of the body
- Hemorrhoids
- High Cholesterol
- High Blood Pressure
- Arrhythmia (irregular heart beat)
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Adult Onset Diabetes
- Back Problems
- Sciatica - leg pain
- Herniated Disc
- Degenerative Joint Disease
- Arthritis
- Sleep Apnea
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Skin Diseases - Psoriasis
- Female Gynecological Problems
What's alarming is that many of these ailments,
especially high cholesterol, high blood
pressure and diabetes are
showing up more and more in younger people.
Some of these ailments may result in surgical repairs. Even a minor
outpatient surgery (one where you leave the hospital the same day of
the surgery) can cost you anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 with
today's hospitals and surgeons care.
Many people feel that they are "lucky" and enjoy good health - Their
body's feel strong. They look good and they feel independent and
safe.
But unfortunately the body can fool you - some of your organs could
not be working properly. Sometimes you actually don't even know it.
At some point in time, usually the body lets you know that something
is wrong.
Sometimes it's a serious disease --- sometimes it's not.
Sometimes it's too late - especially if you don't catch the problem
in it's beginning stages.
A blood and urine test can usually tell if something is wrong.
When you feel sick, you usually feel an ache --- a pain. You feel
uneasy and you know that something is wrong.
"Your body is out of your control."
What comes
next-
When the body fails you - you desperately seek help from
medical professionals. You want the best tests and the latest
medical treatments possible.
That's
when another problem begins -
Without health insurance you are basically out in the cold. Unless
you have a lot of money in the bank - your other alternative is to
seek community welfare care from your local county hospital - and
that could be a grim and unpleasant experience. And worst yet, the
county does scrutinize your financial records and they can ask you
to pay for all services rendered.
Now you are worrying and you are definitely not safe and independent
anymore.
"You've lost your wholeness and your control
and you want it back."
When you have a healthy body - its very
hard to imagine that your body could betray you, turn on you and
become ill. The mind plays tricks on your
sense of well-being.
The final
dilemma -
I've known many people who with good intentions, purchase health
insurance and when they receive one or two rate increases they
sometimes drop the health insurance coverage.
They may go somewhere else - to another insurance carrier and later
receive a rate increase and the cycle starts all over again.
Some people become so disgusted that they decide to drop their
health insurance all together.
Some dearly regret that decision when an unexpected illness or
accident suddenly falls upon them.
Many people have insurance on their cars and
homes. Things that can be replaced. But what about insuring their
body - the only body they'll ever have?
